The treadle propulsion system for the child's scooter consists of a hinged (2) plate (1). The hinge is situated near the rear end of the scooter footplate and the treadle is J-shaped, with a second hinge on the curved end of the J-shape connected to the end of a rack (3). The rack is pressed against a pinion (5) by a pressure roller (4). The pinion drives through a freewheel attached to the axle of the rear wheel. The child drives the scooter by pressing down on the treadle which may be spring-loaded upward.
