PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image fixing device which efficiently diffuses/radiates heat of a paper non-passing part and reduces the defect, such as heating unevenness and thermal damage to peripheral members accompanying the temperature rising of the paper non-passing part. SOLUTION: The image fixing device comprises fixing toner to an imaging medium by bringing the imaging medium with the toner stuck into direct pressurized contact with a planar flexible heating element constituted by holding a laminar heater between heat resistant sheets or bringing the same into pressurized contact through a separate member, such as a film, therewith. Such image fixing device is provided with: a tabular elastic member which exists on the side opposite to the side where there is the image medium with respect to the flexible heater and carries out the function to support the flexible heater against the force to pressurize the image medium; a holder member which supports the end of the elastic member; and a temperature detecting means on a surface of the side opposite to the side of the elastic member where there is the flexible heater.
