摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing apparatus capable of performing an efficient shock absorbing operation. SOLUTION: There is provided a moving shock absorbing apparatus comprising a device for generating a resistance force caused by a deformation resistance of a shock absorbing plate (EA plate) 72 or the like, a steering column moved under a state in which its resistance force is received to absorb a shock applied to the steering column. A mechanism for changing an amount of absorbing shock energy in response to a moving speed of the steering column is added to the shock absorbing apparatus. Moving speed of the steering column is an appropriate parameter showing a size of the shock applied to the steering column. Shock energy can be absorbed efficiently in response to a degree of actual shock by changing the moving speed of the steering column in response to the parameter. Changing the energy absorbing amount changes an engaged state of a roller 74 engaged with an EA plate 72, for example. Specifically, when its speed is high, the roller 74 is rotated to cause a protrusion 98 arranged at the outer circumference of the roller 74 to be engaged with a groove formed at the surface of the EA plate 72.
