PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali-free glass substrate improved in acid resistance without detriment to its meltability. SOLUTION: The alkali-free glass substrate is made from glass having aβ-OH value of at least 0.45/mm, desirably, at least 0.485/mm, and more desirably, at least 0.5/mm. In one embodiment, the alkali-free glass substrate contains, in terms of mass %, 50 to 70% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 10 to 25% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 5 to 20% B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0 to 10% MgO, 0 to 15% CaO, 0 to 15% BaO, 0 to 10% SrO, and 0 to 10% ZnO and is substantially free from an alkali metal oxide.
