PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic auto-tensioner in which invasion of dust or mud water into a dust cover covering an upper part of a rod can be prevented. SOLUTION: In this hydraulic auto-tensioner, an arm connection piece 16 is installed on an upper end part of the rod 15 protruded outward from an upper part of a cylinder 11. On the arm connection piece 16, a spring seat 17 to receive pressure of a return spring 20, and a cylindrical dust cover 18 to cover an outer circumferential upper part of the cylinder 11 are provided. An inner circumferential surface of the dust cover 18 and an outer circumferential surface of the cylinder 11 are sealed to each other with a dust seal 30, thereby invasion of dust or mud water into the dust cover 18 can be prevented.
