There are provided a transmission device and a transmission power control method having a preferable power efficiency and a wide control range of transmission output power and a radio communication device using the transmission device. During a high power output, a high frequency power amplifier (5) is operated as a non-linear amplifier, thereby improving the power efficiency during power amplification of a transmission signal. Moreover, during a low power output, the high frequency power amplifier (5) is operated as a linear amplifier, thereby obtaining a wide control range of the transmission output power. Furthermore, when the high frequency power amplifier (5) operates as the non-linear amplifier, the input level of the high frequency power amplifier (5) is changed according to the average output power of the transmission signal by a variable gain amplifier (7), thereby reducing the leak power and obtaining a wide control range of the transmission output power.
