The system has an air filter case (4) having a differential pressure sensor (6) with two pressure taps (7a,7b) for respectively detecting pressure of downstream and upstream air of air filter cartridge (5). The sensor generates and transmits an electrical signal indicating differential pressure across the cartridge. An electronic interface (8) receives the signal and controls a user information device (9). An independent claim is also included for a method of indication of a state of an air filter for internal combustion engine.
