PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically update a route key used to confirm the correctness of a digital certificate in an authentication process in a client/server system. SOLUTION: The digital certificate management apparatus is connected to the client/server system in which mutual authentication is performed between clients and servers by a scheme such as SSL using digital certificates utilizing public key encryption and communications are performed over a communication channel established based on the authentication, so that the digital certificate management system is configured to automatically update route keys of the servers and the clients. In the updating process, when updating a route key for server authentication to be stored in the client which becomes a communicating party of the server, in order to confirm the correctness of the digital certificate to be used for mutual authentication by the server, a process (2) for transmitting a public key certificate of a server device is performed after completing processes (1-1 to 1-n) for transmitting new route keys for server authentication for all the client devices that become communicating parties of the server device.
