Disclosed is an infrared absorbing composition which comprises a phosphate ester compound containing a phosphate monoester represented by the formula (1) below and a phosphate diester represented by the formula (2) below, and copper ions. The molar ratio of the phosphate monoester to the phosphate diester is from 30:70 to 74:26.In the above formulae, R<1> and R<2> independently represent an ester bond-containing group having 4-18 carbon atoms, an alkyl group having 4-18 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having 4-18 carbon atoms, or an alkynyl group having 4-18 carbon atoms. In this connection, the plural R<2>s may be the same or different from each other.
