PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of displaying a monitor image at a frame rate desired by a photographer independently of external control even when operations of the imaging apparatus are externally controlled. SOLUTION: An image signal generating section 11 generates an image signal of an image imaged at a variable speed frame rate. A frame conversion section 13 converts a frame rate of the image signal of the image imaged at a variable speed frame rate to produce a monitor image signal DVf. When externally receiving communication information items RMt, RMu, a control section 20 controls operations of the image signal generating section 11 and the frame rate conversion section 13 on the basis of the communication information items. The control section 20 controls the frame rate conversion section 13 by taking precedence of an instruction of the frame rate over the communication information items when an interface section 21 instructs the control section 20 on the frame rate of the monitor image signal DVf and the control section 20 allows the frame rate conversion section 13 to generate the monitor image signal DVf at the instructed frame rate independently of the communication information items.
