A steam oven capable of properly controlling the rate of generation of steam and having a high degree of safety. Water dropped into a cooking chamber by a water supply device is converted into steam in the cooking chamber by a heating device. The steam thus generated in the cooking chamber is discharged through a steam passage which puts the interior of the cooking chamber in constant communication with outside the steam oven. The temperature of the steam passing through this steam passage is measured by a steam temperature measuring device, and the amount of water being fed from the water supply device is adjusted in response to the measured temperature.
