摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacturing method of a polarization conversion element in which superior heat resistance, weather resistance, and durability are obtained compared with the conventional polarization conversion element because an optical retardation plate is not exposed to the surface of the element and the manufacturing processes are greatly reduced compared with the conventional manufacturing processes because the optical retardation plate is only to be held between the layers of translucent members during the laminating process of the translucent plate members. SOLUTION: The optical retardation plate of the polarization conversion elements are placed adjacent to polarization split films at the joint parts of a plurality of translucent members or are placed adjacent to reflective films, sandwiched, and adhesively joined. Moreover, when first and second translucent plates, in which the polarizing split films and the reflective films are formed, are alternately laminated and adhered, a 1/4 wavelength optical retardation plate is sandwiched between the first and the second translucent plates and laminated to form an adhered laminated body. A polarization conversion element block is obtained by obliquely cutting the laminated body with respect to the laminated surface and ground to manufacture the polarization conversion element.
