<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor and method for processing an image for applying appropriate antialias processing to a binary format image while maintaining the information on details of the binary format image and for magnifying the binary format image to an image of high picture quality. <P>SOLUTION: An n-time magnified original image which has magnified an original image by n-time magnification is created by an initial magnification processing part 51 and preprocessing is performed by a preprocessing part 52. A domain block image is extracted from the n-times magnified original image by a domain block extraction part 53 and its kind is classified by a domain block classification part 54. In accordance with kind, the domain block image is divided into smaller pieces appropriately. After a range block image larger than the domain block image is extracted from the n-time magnified original image in the range block extraction part 55 and is reduced to the same size as the domain block image by a reduction range block creation part 56, the degree of similarity to the domain block image is judged by a degree of similarity judgment part 57. According to the judgment result, an improved domain block image is obtained by an improved domain block creation part 58.
