A therapeutic composition for the treatment of coughs and colds comprises capsules containing (A) discrete beadlets comprising N - acetyl - p - amino - phenol (paracetamol) and dextromethorphan or a salt as the active ingredients, (B) discrete beadlets comprising N - acetyl - p - amino - phenol, a salt of chlorapheniramine and a salt of phenylephrine as the active ingredients, (C) N - acetyl - p - amino - phenol crystals and (D) inert filler materials; said beadlets (A) comprising (1) N - acetyl - p - amino - phenol as a core material (2) an adhesive composition overlaying said core material, (3) dextramethorphan or a salt thereof dispersed upon the adhesive treated core material and retained thereon by said adhesive composition, (4) an adhesive composition overlaying said medicamentcoated core and (5) tricalcium phosphate dispersed upon said adhesive-treated, medicament-coated core and retained thereon by said adhesive composition and said beadlets (B) comprising (6) N - acetyl - p - amino phenol as a core material, (7) an adhesive composition overlaying the core material, (8) tricalcium phosphate dispersed upon said adhesive-treated core and retained thereon by said adhesive composition, (9) an adhesive composition overlaying the tricalcium phosphate coated core, (10) a medicament mixture comprising (a) a salt of chlorpheniramine and (b) a salt of phenylephrine, dispersed upon the adhesivetreated tricalcium phosphate-coated core and retained thereon by said adhesive composition, (11) an adhesive composition overlaying the medicament mixture-coated-core and (12) tricalcium phosphate dispersed upon the adhesivetreated, medicament core and retained thereon by said adhesive composition. The adhesive composition (2), (4), (7), (9) and (11) may be a syrup comprising from 10% to 20% by weight of acacia, from 45% to 60% of sugar and from 30% to 35% of water. Salts may be. formed with hydrochloric, phosphoric, nitric, acetic, benzoic, citric, malic, maleic, tartaric and salicylic acids. N - acetyl - p - amino - phenol core material is preferably used in the form of crystals. The Example relates to a composition comprising dextromethorphan hydrobromide, chloropheniramine maleate, phenylephrine hydrochloride and paracetamol as active ingredients. |
