1,227,143. Electroless deposition of Co and Ni. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. March 26, 1968 [April 7, 1967], No. 14486/68. Heading C7F. A non-conductive article is mechanically and/or chemically roughened, sensitized with a solution of tin-II-salt in HCl, activated with Pd Cl 2 solution, treated with an aqueous bath containing a reducing agent for the bi-valent Pd ions and/or a complex former, and thereafter metallized with Ni and/or Co by electroless deposition. The said reducing agent may be NaBH 4 , a N-substituted borane, NaH 2 PO 2 , hydroquinone, N 2 H 4 , its salts or alkyl derivatives, or NH 2 OH, a 1-10 wt. % solution of N 2 H 4 .H 2 O at 15-40‹C. being preferred, and the complexing agent may be an aldehyde, e.g. salicy (aldehyde, a ketone, ethylene diamine or EDTA, a 1-10% solution of ethylene diamine at 15-40‹C. being preferred. An aqueous Ni coating bath may contain 30 g/l Ni Cl 2 .6H 2 O, 10 g/1 Na citrate. 20 g/1 Na succinate, 20 g/1 Na acetate, 3 ml/lN-diethylborane and 50 ml/1 alcohol, and Cu may be electro-plated on the Ni coating. |
