1,197,259. Chick-cages. DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP. 6 June, 1968 [9 June, 1967], No. 27023/68 Heading A1M. A cage for chicks consists of a floor merging with a forwardly-upwardly sloping ramp 32, and an extension 40 having a wire mesh floor 42 and an inclined top 44 covering a slot 38 in the front wall 24 so that the chicks can climb up the ramp 32 to a convenient height to feed from a trough 50 running laterally along the cage. The feed in the trough 50 is covered with a wire-mesh strip 60 to prevent feed-waste; a vertically adjustable water cup 70 is arranged well behind the trough to prevent splashing of water in the feed. A flexible curtain 100 covers the hind half of the cage and also hangs downwardly in the cage through a slot in the roof to divide the cage into two zones, the rear zone being heated by a heating pipe 96. The cages are arranged as a battery in two tiers, Fig. 1, spanning a droppings pit 14 and supported on a framed structure 10, 12. Guard plates 98 shield the lower cages from droppings from the upper cages. |
