PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting on/off operations of a folder in a mobile communication terminal are provided to detect folder on/off operations by using a tilt magnetic sensor used for detecting a direction, thereby reducing a terminal size and a manufacturing cost. CONSTITUTION: A system stores average voltage values outputted from an X axis and a Y axis of a tilt magnetic sensor during on/off operations of a folder. The system detects voltage values of the X axis and the Y axis outputted from the tilt magnetic sensor. The system compares the detected voltage values with the average voltage values, and decides on/off states of the folder by confirming whether the compared values are the same within a standard deviation at a corresponding azimuth.
