PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver capable of optionally switching the display or non-display of a video image by a display section while continuing to output a display signal in a state that the television receiver records a reserved program or a user views a program. SOLUTION: The television receiver is provided with a signal processing section 22 for outputting the display signal; the display section 42 for displaying a video image on the basis of the display signal; a main control section 31 for controlling operations of the signal processing section 22 and the display section 42; and a remote controller 3 capable of operating start and stop operations applied to the display section 42. The main control section 31 is configured to be able to perform operation start control for starting an operation of the display section 42 when the operation start is performed in a state that the display signal is outputted to a VTR 7 and the operation of the display section 42 is stopped or the operation stop control for stopping the operation of the display section 42 while continuing to output the display signal when the operation stop is performed in the state that the display signal is outputted to the VTR 7 and the display section 42 is in operation.
