FUEL OIL FOR GASOLINE ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-polluting unleaded high-octane number fuel oil for a gasoline engine which exhibits excellent automotive driving performances. SOLUTION: This fuel oil for the gasoline engine meets the requirements: (1) The fuel oil contains 35-50 vol% of a fraction having a boiling point not lower than 25°C but lower than 75°C, 25-40 vol% of a fraction having a boiling point of not lower than 75°C but lower than 125°C and 10-30 vol% of a fraction having a boiling point of not lower than 125°C but lower than 175°C; (2) The research octane numbers of the fractions above are respectively at least 80; (3) The exhaust gas index Y represented by formula (I): Y=1.07BZ+0.12TO+0.11EB+0.05XY+0.03C9+A+0.005[100-(BZ+TO+EB+XY+C9+A)][wherein BZ is the benzene content; TO is the toluene content; EB is the ethylbenzene content; XY is the xylene content; C9+A is the content of a C9 or higher aromatic component; and each content denotes the content in vol% in the fuel oil] is at most 5; (4) The benzene content is at most 1 vol% and the sulfur content is at most 40 ppm; and (5) The research octane number is 97-102.
