PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a fiber reinforced resin molding material capable of sufficient fibrillating reinforcing fibers to infiltrate a thermoplastic resin into them. SOLUTION: The fiber reinforced resin molding material is manufactured by impregnating a reinforcing fiber bundle with the thermoplastic resin so as to satisfy a condition (A) wherein the reinforcing fiber bundle 20 is heated to (T-200)-(T+10)(°C) [wherein T is the melting temperature (°C) of the thermoplastic resin], a condition (B) wherein the reinforcing fiber bundle 20 is passed while wound around jigs 42 to be fibrillated and the angle formed by reinforcing fibers before and behind each of the jigs 42 is set to 30-170°, a condition (C) wherein the distance L(mm) from the final jig 42, with which the reinforcing fibers come into contact, to a reinforcing fiber converging part is set to 2-300 times n×ϕ(mm) [wherein n is the number of the reinforcing fibers andϕis an average diameter (mm)] and a condition (D) wherein the number n of the reinforcing fibers is set to 2,000-40,000.
