PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foamed molded article which does not contain undissolved lump, can be produced in a high yield, has a low density, and can be used as a cushioning material having an excellent elastic performance, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This method for producing the foamed molded article is characterized by comprising a kneading process for kneading 100 pts.wt. of a fibrous substance with 360 to 710 pts.wt. of a water-soluble polymer binder aqueous solution having viscosity of 100 to 120,000 mPa×s measured with a B type viscometer at 20°C to produce the kneaded product, a foaming process for foaming the kneaded product obtained in the kneading process to produce the foamed product, a molding process for molding the foamed product obtained in the foaming process in a prescribed shape to produce the molded product, and a drying process for drying the molded article obtained in the molding process.
