PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information signal reproducing apparatus and information signal processing apparatus in which a user can perform an effective reproducing operation to visually easily grasp which digest reproduction domain is reproduced, in the case of digest reproduction in a recording and reproducing apparatus. SOLUTION: The information signal reproducing apparatus comprises: a feature extracting means for extracting feature data from an image or the audio data sequence of a predetermined domain; a summary reproducing domain processing means for determining a domain for summary reproduction to reproduce a summary of image or audio data according to predetermined rules in accordance with an output signal from the feature extracting means; a representative image generating means for generating a predetermined representative image in each summary reproduction domain in response to a signal from the summary reproduction domain processing means; a reproduction control means for controlling the successive reproduction of domains for summary reproduction in a predetermined order in response to a signal from the summary reproduction domain processing means; and a display state control means for controlling the display state of the representative image generated by the representative image generating means or the display state of an outer frame accompanied with the representative image in accordance with the state of reproduction using the reproduction control means, a domain length and a reproduction time point of the domain for the summary reproduction.
