PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transdermal drug delivery system that is liquid at or about room temperatures during production of the transdermal system and does not suffer from the substantial loss of the lower molecular weight drug during production of the transdermal system. SOLUTION: THe transdermal composition containing a blend of one or more polymers and one or more drugs, at least one of which drugs has a low molecular weight and is liquid at or about room temperatures, is disclosed . The composition is substantially free of water and liquids having a normal boiling point (a) optionally below processing temperatures and (b) higher than or equal to the temperature of the low molecular weight drugs. The composition does not suffer from the substantial loss of the lower molecular weight drug during production of the transdermal system. A transdermal composition having one or more drugs, at least one of which has a low molecular weight and is liquid at or about room temperatures, and a polymer matrix including one or more high shear resistant polymers is also disclosed. The high shear resistant polymer(s) reduce the plasticizing effect of the low molecular weight drug, and have sufficient tack and shear for application to a human being. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
