PURPOSE: A wireless image transmitting and receiving apparatus and method for safety operation of subway are provided to alarm a running train when the train is approaching to an expected danger zone and allow an operator to confirm the situation of the front area. CONSTITUTION: A wireless image transmitting apparatus includes a video camera(1), a character generator(2), a video encoder(3), the first and second modulators(4,5), a transmission antenna(6), and a beacon transmitter(7). Video information input from the video camera is mixed with character information generated by the character generator. The mixed result is compressed by the video encoder. The compressed signal is modulated by the first and second modulators and radio-transmitted through the transmission antenna. The beacon transmitter periodically transmits an identifier for identifying the wireless image transmitting apparatus.
