<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for identifying a circular object which can reduce a bad influence resulted from a fluctuating element such as a reduction in reflectance of the whole coin surface even when adapting an inexpensive method using optical image for the identification processing of the circular object. <P>SOLUTION: In the method and device, whether the circular object to be identified is a predetermined normal circular object or not is identified by specifying luminance data of a detected part corresponding to a characteristic part peculiar to the circular object surface on image data obtained by imaging the surface of the circular object by use of a parameter (radial distance and rotating angle) in a polar coordinate system. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
