PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver and its control method which applies a sequential scanning conversion process to moving video formed and obtained in the interlace mode by e.g., a digital camera, etc., thereby displaying them at high quality. SOLUTION: An input signal detector circuit 18 for detecting the mode of video image signals selectively outputted by a video image signal switch circuit 12 outputs a detection result corresponding to the 2-2 pull-down mode, while a select/control circuit 16 outputs a signal for selectively outputting video image signals read out of a memory card 15 to the video image signal switch circuit 12, and thereby a video image signal processor circuit 17 for applying a sequential scanning conversion process to the input video image signals is forced to execute a 2-2 pull-down conversion process.
