<p>Beta-adrenergic blocking propanolamine derivs. Title cpds. of formula (I) (where R' is carboxyamido (pref. acetamido), lower alkoxycarbonylamino or carbamoyl which can be separated from the phenyl ring by a methylene or ethylene groups; R2 and R3 are H or lower alkyl; R4 is carboxyamido, sulphonamido, lower alkoxycarbonyl: amino, carbamoyl or sulphamoyl which can be separated from the phenyl ring by a methylene or ethylene group; R5 is H, lower alkyl, lower alkanoyl or benzyl, X is O or S; Y is O, S, SO, SO2, NH or a direct bond; n is 1,2 or when Y is a direct bond, also O or 4; and rings A and B may be further substd. by one or more halogen atoms or lower alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy or alkenoxy groups) and their pharmaceutically tolerable acid addition salts, as well as aldehyde condensation products of (I; R5 = H) and esters in which the 2-hydroxy group is esterified with a lower alkane carboxylic acid. Their beta-adrenergic blocking effect is stronger on cardiac than on peripheral receptors and they are useful for heating e.g. angina pectoris and cardiac arrhythmias.</p> |
