PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing lead wire having an external lead wire and causing no cost increase, which can be connected to a sealing material for hard glass, and is excellent in corrosion resistance and workability, and a cold cathode fluorescent lamp having this lead wire. SOLUTION: This sealing lead wire 3 is equipped with the sealing material 4 comprising kovar, tungsten, or molybdenum, and the external lead wire 5 connected to the outside end of the sealing material 4, in which a copper layer 5b is coated on the surface of an ion-nickel core wire 5a, and a nickel layer 5c is coated on the copper layer 5b. Since the lead wire in which the copper layer 5b and the nickel layer 5c are coated on the ion-nickel core wire 5a is used for the external lead wire 5 connected to the outside end of the sealing material 4, this sealing lead wire has no problem in welded connection, excellent corrosion resistance and excellent workability, and its cost can be suppressed.
