<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative charge type toner having superior charge rising performance even under extreme stress or impulse force in a color printer or the like, capable of retaining chargeability over a prolonged period of time, and having excellent environmental suitability, etc., and to provide a toner container using the same, an image forming apparatus and an image forming method. <P>SOLUTION: The negative charge type toner is characterised in that the binder resin of a toner base is polyester resin and/or polyol resin not containing a THF (tetrahydrofuran)-insoluble component, containing 1 to 4 wt.% component whose molecular weight is ≤500 in the molecular weight distribution of the resin determined by gel permeation chromatography, and having a peak in the molecular weight range of 3,000 to 9,000.
