A composition useful for the oxidation dyeing of human keratinous fibres and in particular hair containing, in a cosmetically acceptable medium based on water and at a basic pH, at least one oxidation dye and an alkalinizing agent containing at least one alkali metal, alkaline-earth metal or ammonium metasilicate and at least one alkanolamine, and the dyeing method using this composition.
