1302554 Alkoxyalkylpyrazine preparation UNILEVER Ltd 9 June 1970 [10 June 1969] 29388/69 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds (I) where R<SP>1</SP>represents C 1-10 alkoxy and R represents C 1-10 alkyl provided that R does not represent methyl or 3-isobutyl when R<SP>1</SP>represents 2-methoxy, R does not represent 3-methyl when R<SP>1</SP>represents 2-butoxy and R does not represent methyl when R<SP>1</SP>represents ethoxy. The compounds (I) are made by halogenating the appropriate alkylpyrazine and reacting the resulting haloalkylpyrazine with a metal C 1-10 alkoxide, or with a C 1-10 alcohol and an alkali metal hydroxide. Alternatively they may be made by alkylating alkoxypyrazines by the method given below. C 2-10 -Alkylpyrazines may be made by reacting 2-methylpyrazine with a C 1-9 alkyl halide in the presence of sodamide and liquid ammonia. The compounds of the invention find use as additives to perfume compositions. |
