<p>An operating mechanism for a thermoplastics panel press comprises generally horizontal cylinders at the side of the press, each connected by a 2-link system (esp. a bell-crank lever and a straight link) to the mould-plate. Specif., one end of the cranked lever is attached to a fixed bearing, the other passes beneath the mould-plate and is linked to it by the straight link, and the horizontal ram acts on the elbow of the cranked lever. The arrangement reduces overall height and enables standardised operating mechanisms to be used side-by-side, in varying numbers for different sizes of mould-plate.
