1300430 Isomerization of dichlorobutenes BP CHEMICALS Ltd 17 May 1971 [30 June 1970] 31545/71 Addition to 1296481 Heading C2C One of 1,4-dichloro-butene-2 and 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 is isomerized to the other by contact with a catalyst composition comprising cupric naphthenate and ortho- or para-nitro-aniline or a ring-alkyl substituted derivative thereof. In the isomerization of 1,4-dichloro-butene-2 to 3,4-dichloro-butene- 1, the isomerization product from the former or from the direct chlorination product of butadiene is fed to a fractionating column and the lower-boiling 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 distilled off. In the isomerization of 3,4-dichloro-butene-1 to 1,4-dichloro-butene-2, the isomerization product from the former or from the direct chlorination product of butadiene is fed to the base of a fractionating column, 1,4-dichloro-butene-2 is removed near the base of the column and 3,4-dichloro-butene-1 is removed at the head of the column and recycled to the reactor. The process may be batch-wise or continuous. |
