METHOD FOR DETECTING EXISTENCE OF DIGITAL SIGNAL IN DIGITAL TV RECEIVER FOR MINIMIZING WAITING TIME OF USER

PURPOSE: A method for detecting the existence of a digital signal in a digital TV receiver is provided to reduce decoding stand-by time of a decoder for a channel having no signal, an analog signal channel and a channel having null signals when channel search is carried out to minimize user's waiting time. CONSTITUTION: The power level of a predetermined point is confirmed for a specific position in a signal when the signal is received from a channel(S300,S302). It is judged whether the power level value of the point exists in a critical range(S304). When the power level value exists in the critical range, it is judged whether a power level value deviation of the point exists in a predetermined deviation range(S306). When the power level value deviation exists in the deviation range, the received signal is judged to be a digital signal(S308).
