A shear-thinning detergent composition in paste or paste like form is provided, comprising an anionic surfactant in an amount of 5 to 40 wt.% of the composition and a hydratable builder salt in an amount of from more than 5 to 60 wt.% of the composition. The composition has a viscosity of from 30 to 200 Pa.s at a shear rate of 1s-1 at 25 DEG C and a viscosity of from 5 to 25 Pa.s at a shear rate of 10s-1 at 25 DEG C and the ratio of the viscosity at 1s-1 to the viscosity at 10s-1 is from 2:1 to 10:1.
