PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method capable of preventing the illegal use of contents. SOLUTION: Contents restored with a device for reproducing the contents, for example, an information processor such as a PC, are fed back to a driving device. In the driving device, electronic watermark detection targeting the fed-back restored contents is performed, and contents output from the driving device is controlled on the basis of the detected electronic watermark. Thus, irrespective of the data mode of the contents before the restoration, i.e., coded data of MPEG-1 or MPEG-4 other than MPEG2, or encrypted data, the electronic watermark is reliably detected, and contents reproduction control based on the detection result is realized.
