APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CLAMPING FRICTION SURFACES TO A TUBULAR STRUCTURE

An apparatus for clamping friction pads to thin walled tubular structures of varying circumferences and taper angles is comprised of a frame which can be assembled around the tubular structure, one or more load arms for moving the one or more friction surfaces relative to the frame, and means for applying a load to the one or more friction surfaces. A method for clamping friction pads without causing damage to the tubular structure is also described.
