PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightning arrester capable of increasing certainty of capturing a thunderbolt, simplified in structure, and lowered in cost. SOLUTION: A charging electrode 4 of a conductor, which is supported by a grounded support column 2 while being electrically insulated via an insulating material 3, is charged by collisional friction (collisional friction with floating materials such as dust included in wind) with the wind, and by this charge, spatial discharge is generated between a discharge electrode 5 having conduction with the charging electrode 4 and the support column 2 before generation of a downward streamer of a thundercloud. Air is ionized by this spatial discharge, and the generation direction of the downward streamer is guided by ion flow of charged ions, and a thunderbolt is guided to the lightning arrester 1.
