PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rearrange image data without deviating a writing/reading timing in/from a memory concerning an image reader. SOLUTION: Concerning the first line of main scanning, pixels are written one by one in the memory in arrangement order of writing data WD. In the case of reading, memory addresses are read in order of 0, 2, 4, ..., 5, 3, 1, so that the image data are rearranged in continuous sequence along the pixel arrayal direction of a CCD sensor 2. Concerning the second line of main scanning, data are written every two addresses, i.e., in order of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ..., from the memory address where the reading of the first line is terminated. In the case of reading, the memory addresses are read in order of 0, 4, 8, ..., 10, 6, 2, so that the image data are rearranged in continuous sequence along the pixel arrayal direction of the CCD sensor 2.
