PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a pattern warp and weft woven fabric of tapestry tone with high wear resistance. SOLUTION: The pattern warp and weft woven fabric is obtained by the following procedure: Pattern yarns 39 are woven in a fabric composed of warps 21, 22 and wefts 16, 17. Part 20 of the pattern yarns 39 is woven in parallel to the wefts 16, 17 and a pattern 18 is formed on the surface of the fabric through the part 20 parallel to the wefts of the pattern yarns. A non-pattern part 30 of the pattern yarns not exposed in the pattern is woven in similarly to the warps in the weaving direction and bound into the fabric through the wefts. For the weaving operation, a pattern wrap and weft-weaving machine is used. In this machine, rod-shaped 1st heddle 11 and 2nd heddle 12 with heddle eyes 13 and 14 on their tips respectively are disposed with the respective tips turned oppositely to each other in the direction P of shedding motion, a pattern yarn guide 15 is disposed at a position apart from an intermediate position between the respective tips in the weaving direction R, and a means for moving the pattern yarns in the the weave width direction Q through supporting the pattern yarn guide.
