The vane cell oil pump has a slotted hub (3). Vanes (5) slide radially in the slots (7). The hub rotates in a contoured ring (9) with the outer ends of the vanes sliding on the inner surface of the ring. There are kidney-shaped inlet and outlet openings in opposite end walls. The outlet openings have a first part (13) exposed to the pressure regions inside the contoured ring and have a second part (15) hidden by the end of the ring.
