<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery wherein battery characteristics such as an active material utilization factor, a discharge voltage, a charge-discharge cycle or the like are improved by uniformly dispersing carbon fibers in a paste while maintaining conductivity on the surface of the carbon fibers, thereby improving the conductivity between the carbon fibers and an active material. <P>SOLUTION: The alkaline storage battery comprises a cadmium negative electrode, wherein polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) which has existed on the surface of the carbon fibers is isolated, and the carbon fibers disperse uniformly in the cadmium active material by migration during the drying of a paste cadmium active material. In this way, when the carbon fibers disperse uniformly in the cadmium active material in the state that there is not polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on the surface of the carbon fibers, there is not an insulator on the surface of the carbon fibers. Thus, the conductivity between the negative electrode active material and the carbon fibers becomes good, and a uniform conductive network is formed in the negative electrode to improve the battery characteristics. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
