PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems that in a conventional method determining the input completion of handwritten characters by referring to interrupted time exceeding a set time, a person can not perform character input naturally at his or her own pace and that in the conventional method determining the input completion of the handwritten characters by starting of writing to a new character input frame, decision of the character input is slow. SOLUTION: A character input device determines the completion of the character input to a character recognition frame 3 at a point of time when the locus 4 of the characters written in the character recognition frame 3 protrudes to the outside of the character recognition frame 3 to start the recognition of the characters written in the character recognition frame 3. Consequently, a user performs handwriting and inputs the characters at the user's own pace. Thus, the user naturally inputs the characters according as he or she desires. Furthermore, quick recognition processing is available in comparison with the conventional character input method determining the completion of the character input according to the character input to another character recognition frame.
