The control device (10) for automatic control of lighting systems (18) especially for a motor vehicle, has at least a sensor (14, 22, 24) that outputs a signal and at least a control unit (12) with a control characteristic or trait that can be changed by a driver activated switch (16). The signals relate to brightness, speed and rain. The driver can adjust threshold levels of the control characteristic, which in turn are subjected to plausibility testing by the control unit in conjunction with the received signals.
