PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of luminance difference between lines depending upon the amount of display data and to excellently perform multi- level display in an image display device such as a triode type plasma display device for selectively performing emited light display for plural display cells located on the intersection of plural matrix-like electrodes. SOLUTION: When display data are displayed by performing write in discharge in a display cell selected from among plural display cells by either a first electrode or a second electrode and a third electrode and performing sustaining discharge by a pair of the first and the second electrodes, this device is provided with a counting means 7 for display data amount for every line for counting the amount of display data detected for every line, the counted result of the amount of display data by the counting means 7 for every line is compared with the counted result of a sustaining discharge control signal and a number of times of sustaining discharge is controlled for every line based on an enable signal generated at the time of coincidence of both counted results. |
