PURPOSE: A multi-television for controlling scene conversion according to a broadcast type of a selected channel and a method of controlling the same are provided to enable conversion into a video mute time mode for showing a black picture to be controlled, by storing broadcast types of selectable channels in advance. CONSTITUTION: A tuner(110) selects the first channel of a plurality of channels through which a broadcast signal is received. A storage part(160) stores broadcast types which correspond to the channels. A signal process part(130) processes a video signal by technique that corresponds to a broadcast type of the first channel selected. A display part(140) displays the video signal processed. A channel selection part(150a) selects the second channel of the channels. A control part(170) controls output of the video signal to the display part by comparing the broadcast types of the first and second channels with each other.
