PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting the catching in a door of an omnibus vehicle are provided to prevent an accident like injury or death occurring as children's clothes is caught in a sliding door. CONSTITUTION: A device for detecting the catching in a door of an omnibus vehicle comprises a laser-emitting part(30) installed to the rear of a sliding door of the omnibus vehicle to irradiate layer light toward the front; a laser-receiving part(32) formed integrally with the laser-emitting part to receive light reflected on an object after irradiation from the laser-emitting part; a vehicle speed sensor(34) detecting the vehicle speed of the omnibus vehicle; a door opening display part(22) displaying a warning signal for opening the sliding door; a door opening/closing-sensing part(24) sensing the opening/closing state of the sliding door; a warning sound-producing part(26) for giving a warning sound to a driver; and a control unit(28). The control unit detects a state wherein clothes is caught in the sliding door, warns a driver clothes is caught in the sliding door, and temporarily stops the engine of the omnibus vehicle for safety.
