The device has a base body carrying a work platform with a guide column for a height adjustable cutting arm accommodating a cutter unit. The cutter arm can be moved along a guide track (5) on the guide column (4)n by a height adjustment drive (14,16,17) with an electric motor (14). The height adjustment drive has a spindle drive (16,18) driven by the electric motor.
