The pump comprises a helical rotor 38 and a stator 42 with flexible sleeves 44, 46 held in place by a ring 54. The sleeve 44 defines a bore provided internally with a helical thread having a pitch which is the same as or a multiple of the rotor pitch, the stator being coaxial with the drive shaft. A position of the drilling mud is pumped through the stator sleeve 44 by the rotor to lubricate the bearing means which comprise a thrust bearing 16 and a radial bearing 18. The shaft is connected at the upper end to a rotor or to a flexible coupling 36, and at the lower end to a bit sub 8. The flexible coupling may be connected to a mud operated drive device. |
