PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera capable of decreasing the processing time, extending the dynamic range and obtaining a proper color image for each field. SOLUTION: The digital camera is provided with: a solid-state imaging element 4 adopting the interlaced transfer system for transferring a color signal comprising three components, that is, R, G, B components or a color signal comprising four components, that is, Y, M, C, G components for each field in the case of capturing a still picture; a drive circuit 5 for the solid-state imaging element; and a control section 8. Further, the digital camera has a dynamic range extension photographing mode wherein the color signal including at least the three components is subjected to transfer control on the basis of a field read signal so that signal electric charges are read from the solid-state imaging element by dividing the frame drive period of the color signal into first, second and third fields whose exposure times differ from each other, and the image data received separately from the first, second and third fields are composed to generate an image.
